Where He Took Me

*** Bear with me - This so-called EDITOR for this blog is NOT working correctly... It never does, anymore!!

Had such a crazy - fun - wonderful - and ever so much needed - desperately needed weekend of a surprise from my husband for Mother’s Day!

I'm very - scrambled - right now.  We haven't been able to settle down since returning home yesterday evening.  The dogs were anxious to see us.  We were almost taken out by idiots on the freeway - twice.  The second joker caused damage to the fuel injection pump - a $900.00 ( or more ) part that now must be replaced.

So just - bear with me.  Thanks!

He began by texting me - last Thursday.  “ Pack for three days.  No questions.  Pups already taken care of.

When they forget to mention packing for land - sea - woods, etc. - how can one possibly know what clothing to pack?  So - you cover your butt - and pack a week’s worth with a little bit of everything.  Right?

I knew for sure - we were driving somewhere to pick up a tractor he had found for us to buy.  We towed a flat-bed trailer behind.  And I think that thing weighs almost as much as the truck - without anything loaded.  This is the tractor we bought.

By the time we headed down there - I had guessed two particular places that might be possible - Atlanta - or - Savannah.  I begin seeing things like this.

And this.  Even splattered bugs - all over the windshield.

We were in Atlanta.  But we didn’t stop.

By the time the cat was out of the bag - Dwayne had rigged up meeting the guy selling the trailer on Monday morning - on our way back home - in Statesboro.

My husband - had set up this total surprise of taking me to Savannah for the weekend - as a Mother’s Day surprise.  He made all the reservations - hotel - dinner - even called the Vet to set up the dogs for kenneling!

This was our room!

This was the view from our window at night!!

But  first - once we get there...

By the time we see this - we’re making our way back from a parts store - after buying a lock - for the trailer.

The Hotel reservations agent LIED to my husband - BIG time - idiotic time - " OMG what were you thinking, Wench ?! " time.  There was no parking for a 3/4ton 4x4 Dodge Ram pickup that was towing a bulky flatbed trailer behind it.  ( I could have told him that was impossible - had I known about the plan. )

Thank God I was there when this happened.  Problem solver - Creative Improviser - Public rapport - those would be my best skills.  And boy - did I pull a rabbit out of my hat.

The roads in Historic Savannah aren’t even as wide as the roads in Historic downtown Galveston’s Strand District.  But I saw a Tire Center open - and had Dwayne pull into the parking lot - which was being prepared for evening “ Valet Parking “ for one of the nightly spots by some guy.

There are no photos showing this incident.

I was in no mood for taking photos at this point.

By the time I finished talking to one of the guys working for the shop - we were headed to find a lock - to secure and park the trailer on their parking lot until early Monday morning.

Both of us reached the point of wanting to kill each other.  Neither of us could remember if the guy told us to go up one - or two lights - before turning left and driving “ about 4 miles down the road “ to find the parts store.

So - I’m on the phone calling my girl - Charlotte - for help on Google.  And she’s in her car - with her own family - heading out for some fun of her own!  But - she’s got the big cell phone bill - so - she tells me she’ll call back after she finds something on her phone!

And then - she has Wayne call back.  And - we’re parking in the lot where we’ve found a parts store.

And - I’m crying out loud for - a drink - at least 100 proof!  This was as far as I got - until that buzz I got off the Mohito I had at Wet Willie’s on Sunday!

Upon returning to the tire shop - hunting down the lock for the trailer was all for not.  But that's okay.  The guy at the Tire Center was wonderful enough to have us park it behind the building - on a lot secured with a very tall cyclone fence and locked gates.

Beyond that - my husband set up a wonderful - wonderful weekend for the two of us - in Downtown Historic - Savannah, Georgia!

We had shrimp Saturday night.  We had a Mother’s Day Brunch at the Hotel.

And for Dinner on Mother’s Day - my Husband had made reservations for us to have dinner - at the very restaurant owned by the very person anyone ever hears me mention - when the subject becomes - the state of Georgia!

Both of us were looking forward to having seafood at The Lady and Sons.  Neither of us were aware of one little fact - they only serve Buffet on Sundays.  And they were hanging over for the day - as it was - because it was Mother's Day.

And let me tell you - they were swamped!!!

There were so many places we visited - so many corners we walked around!

We bought loads of handmade candy.  And yes - I found Pecan Brittle - and - the most delicious and Huge Pecan Pralines!

Dwayne picked out a bag full of the Saltwater Taffy!  And it’s the very best we’ve ever had!!

And I wanna go back - again - and again.  And I want everybody in our families - and every person we know - to go with us!  It was absolutely wonderful!  It was so relaxing!  It was so fun!

It was absolutely gorgeous!  The weather could not have been anymore perfect!  The humidity was almost - Nil.

We could not help noticing that we did not see the police force swarming all around.  We saw not one single ugly incident between any souls during the entire weekend.

And we were everywhere - with loads and loads of other folks!  Everybody was able to have such a great time!

No worries about witnessing any “ Girls Gone Wild “ Melee breaking out.  In fact - the college crowd was extremely impressive - incredibly mature - and still lots of fun!

This is the first real vacation my husband and I have taken since we made a trip to Reelfoot Lake to go crappie fishing with a few of the guys from work.

That was a couple years ago.  Before then - nothing beyond flying home - for funerals.

With all the issues that have been going on in my personal life - especially over the past year - this trip was desperately needed.  I love my husband and appreciate him more than words can even describe.  He knew how badly I needed to get away and let go of everything for a few days.

It was impossible to see everything in such short amount of time.  But there is every reason - to go back - again and again!

But - there are more photos!  And I’ll be sharing them in the next week!

For now - I must go help my husband.

I am hearing lots of - “ screeching “ - going on outside.
