This round of days off has been exceptionally busy. We're forced with taking a break today - only due to a line of bad weather passing through for the day. We're lucky. A cold front follows behind - to push these record-breaking high 80 temperatures back down into the 70's where they're supposed to be during this time of year.
The inside of my house looks like hell! Okay - well - as far as I'm concerned - it looks like hell. Of course - I can see things that others wouldn't see. I can see through walls. I can see from inside my head. I'm part of that elite group - old wenches in their 50's that have already tromped through the ditches to get spawn to the age of 21 years.
Dwayne and I began this round with final prep before planting the veggie garden. Stubborn weeds - big enough to hide Easter eggs - that refused to die when the ground was turned a few weeks ago - gone!
We made two trips to the Monterey Mushroom Plant for mushroom compost. And we learned something about those two trips. Best time to go is around 11:30am. Lunchtime kills the waiting line!
We got a nice layer spread across the entire space before Dwayne turned it in with the tiller.
The second load of compost took care of this flower bed - our little bed along the driveway - and our trees. We still had almost half the truck bed filled with compost. That's gone into a pile beside the veggie garden. And it will be put to great use in no time at all.
I managed to get my trail around the hay field mowed while Dwayne was tilling the compost into the veggie garden.
We knew we had all this rain coming today. So - I mowed all the other yesterday. Dwayne stayed busy with the weed-eater.
All in all - there's about 4 - 5 acres to mow.
These photos don't show all the areas.
We got our new Granny Smith Apple tree planted! I received an email from Nature Hills - finally - informing me that the remainder of our order was shipped out on April 6. Go figure. We're expecting it to show up today - in the middle of all this rain - the day before Dwayne goes back to work.
But - we did get the planting areas ready for the grape vines. By the time I finished mowing yesterday - it was time to fix supper. And I completely forgot that we needed to prep the area for planting the Kwanzan Cherry tree.
But that's okay. We also forgot that we need to call Loudon Utilities and get one of the guys to come out and mark where our gas line is buried. Taking care of that one today.

The inside of my house always looks horrible....well the floors anyway, I'm horrible at keeping them scrubbed, as I hate to do it. My kitchen floor really needs it right now...but it will wait for a while longer I'm sure, before I break down and do it. I'm a better housekeeper (somewhat) than my Mom was, but I'm not really all that good. LOL
You have a good excuse for an unkept house though, since you have been so busy outside! :) - April 10, 2010 at 12:44 PM
