Full Moon Phooey

Well… not sure - but - we may have been screwed out of planting our favorite - spinach.

At least - for the spring season.

Within the past three days especially - our weather has leaped from nasty and cold - to sunshine and temps in the low 80's. The nights have moved from low 40’s to mid 50’s.

I’ve all but decided to throw a hissy-fit and demand having some raised beds constructed by the house - just for growing the spinach.

We constructed these raised beds in the backyard of the house we rented prior to buying the home and land where we now reside.

This will be “ strike 2 “ while living at this house where we're living now. Two seasons when we were beat out of planting our spinach in time - all because it’s absolutely necessary for us to have soil dry enough for adding mushroom compost into the garden.

Amazing how dirt can be so different between one spot and another - with only a few miles separating the two. Unfortunately - we now deal with - sand and rock. Being the serious gardener that I am - I am not the least bit impressed.

I have already dealt with that type of challenge in my life - years ago - while living in the San Joaquin Valley of California. My saving grace - two pet rabbits. Between the soiled hay and manure cleaned out of their cages - my entire yard had neighbors feeling pure disappointment upon hearing news that I was leaving.

Recently - I got a wild hair and decided to Google the aerial shot of that same place I had rented. Of course - it turned out to be one of those - “ Go figure, “ - moments. Everything looked like Hell. Nobody had bothered taking care of the three trees I planted.

The flowerbed in front of the picket fence - you’d never even know one had once thrived there. Absolutely nothing - no color or texture beyond fence and air was to be found peeking and popping up over the tops of the 3-foot picket fence.

The back side of the four-plex where I once had a water fountain at the end of a trail surrounded by a sense of cooling and color in the heat of the summer - now closed off with an 8-foot fence. No doubt - a dog.

That’s what happens when you have minds that live according to their opinion of - “ So what - it’s not mine.

On a much lighter note - with mind having all the faith that I lack holding in most humans on this planet right now -

I wish the Crappie would hurry up and get here. I’m so ready!!!
